Hi! I’m Katie…

My photographic style is a mixture of Photojournalism : where I hang-back like the proverbial “fly on the wall”, capturing authentic moments as they naturally happen, & Guided Movement Posing : where I direct subjects into some very basic poses, then ask them to interact in specific ways; verbally guiding them through & utilizing that natural movement to capture authentic moments in a slightly more curated way. Both are very easy-going & fun, creating a much more casual atmosphere than a traditional portrait session; & thus work equally well for the extroverted, & ultra camera-shy alike! My aim in blending these styles together is it’s versatility; to keep people moving, feeling relaxed, & most-like themselves. This way, i’m able to capture a full & well-rounded story with genuine accuracy, each & every time; no matter the personality type. Using natural-looking portraits & real-life candid moments, I will deliver a collection of photographs that artistically exhibits the people, their personalities, & their relationships, in their best light possible!

My expertise: I’m a college-trained photographer, earning my BA in Photojournalism from San Fransisco State University back in 2004. I have been a professional photographer, sharpening my ability for over 20 years now; & over all those years, my love for the art has only continued to grow... I’m also a graphic designer & Certified Adobe Specialist, expertly trained in Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign; all aiding me in my art in various ways. If you can imagine it, I can probably make it happen for you in print! ; )

What inspires me: I’m a sensitive human, who loves all things real. The things that make people feel are generally the things they value most, & that is the one true purpose guiding all of my art... capturing photos that make people feel something. My goal is to (of course) deliver beautiful photographs clients love; but also to gift to them a miraculous intangible… A warm & tingly feeling that lifts a smile to their face or wells tears in their eyes. Photography can be a means to archiving your most cherished memories & connections to the world; & that is the job I aim to fulfill each & every time. All the moments & feelings you never want to forget, forever cemented in a series of beautiful, artistic photographs that tell a story from your life.

A little more about me: I’m an artist through-and-through, & have been since the day I can remember. I love to write, to draw, to dance & sing, to compose on my piano & play my guitar. Anything & everything that is a means for expression brings me joy & satisfaction. I’m also super into the horror & SciFi genre... I might be a sucker for streaming shock & awe, but I’m still a big ‘Ol softy…
I love kids, (pretty sure I’m just a big one), to laugh, (even at my own jokes), reading trashy romance novels, (though it’s hard to admit), & of course I love photography! I love it all. It warms me up & fills my heart, which is exactly what I want to share with each & every one of my clients. I see beauty in all things really; but in order to properly translate this photographically, it takes: skill, craftsmanship, & sensitivity…

What sets me apart: I’m a trained photojournalist. Before I ventured off to pursue my passion on my own, I worked for various publications as a staff photographer & photo agencies as a freelance photographer & graphic designer, which provides me with a wealth of experience & know-how that guides me in perfectly piecing together a well-rounded storyline for each & every photo shoot I do. From the over-all picture to the tiniest details, the unique product I bring to you at the end is always a beautiful story...Your story. Its your beauty, your emotion, & your connections; I am just the fine-tuned conduit it all ran through, & Oh so honored to have been a part of it all!
